On my second backup, my mac wouldn't recognize the drive so I bought the USB 2.0 power cable that Western Digital recommended on their website. This is my first external hard drive ever so I don't really have anything to compare it to. There are helpful instructions on the wd website. That didn't work right away but it started backing up after I partitioned it. Make sure you format/partition before backing up a Mac. First time I backed up, I had to reformat.
It is the best Hard Drive that i ever use Western Digital 320 GB Passport 2.5" USB 2.0 Hard Drive is Hard and it drives you where ever you want.
It uses the computer's power to work. I've backed up all of my files, pics, videos and music and I'm not even close to 320gb. I think what I like most is you DO NOT Nneed a separate power source, you simply attach the USB cable to any computer and plug-in play recognizes it and you're able to access your files through Explorer. Bought this passport almost six months ago. Great Portability and Convenience. I also bought the matching case to minimize damage and scratches. It's a great tool to store and transfer files. I don't think I'll ever reach the max 320 GB.
I deleted the whole bundle but its a great accessory drive to have. I dont too much like the softwae package that comes with it. I love my lil hard drive got to keep it tucked though it seems real fragile. Its got a pretty decent speed.
I love that it doesn't require an extra plug to get it up and running. I can make this like a virtual computer and have access to my files anywhere there is a computer." This has not been the case. I love that it's 320GB. My fear is that one day I will not be able to access anything on this drive. I've owned this product for several months and would like to say that I hate it and love it, all at the same time.
So, if you're like me and have a desktop or another hard drive that you can back this up onto or don't wish to use it for your only copy of important documents, then I would go ahead and get it. But, it's unreliable, more than normal pieces of technology. So, I'm forced to back everything up, perhaps wise, but that means now I have to have 640GB instead of 320GB for the same files. When I first bought this hard drive I thought "WOW. I love that this little hard drive has more hard drive space than my laptop. This is particularly annoying when I'm listening to music or moving files around. I don't just take it anywhere "just in case."So in conclusion, I have to say I love that I can throw this thing in my purse and take it with me to work or vice versa instead of hauling around an entire laptop. HOWEVER, what I hate is that often my computer doesn't recognize it, or that it randomly decides to disconnect and reconnect to my computer (in a virtual sense, not physical). So, I have to be selective.
Let me explain. It seems the more I disconnect it and reconnect it on another machine, the more problems I have. Otherwise, you're just waiting for a disaster to occur. I love that it's small and portable. My solution at this point is to physically disconnect it and connect it until the connection sticks.
